Global Shipping Pro
Overview
Global Shipping Pro is a software as a service (SAAS) offering provided by Intelligistics, a leading logistics software company. This innovative solution, designed and implemented by EdenLogic, allows freight fowarders to easily manage "project freight" and facilitate coordination between freight forwarders, their clients, materials venders and warehouse packers.
Key Features
Interface
The project included the development of a rich set of ergonomic, original user interfaces designed by EdenLogic. The application provides a client for the web, a client for windows mobile (which runs on Symbol bar code scanners) and a locally installable user application.
Database Replication
In order to guarantee smooth operation at certain warehouse facilities where internet bandwidth has been known to be unreliable, Global Shipping Pro was built to support database replication. At each "low bandwidth" location a GSP Node Server is installed (often reffered to as a GSPN). Database replication occurs between the main GSP data center and the GSPN to ensure that real time transactions at the warehouse facility can occur on the local database server without causing any latency issues that may hinder the container packing process.
Process Optimization
Global Shipping Pro has helped to streamline the flow of business for "project freight" by enabling the numerous parties involved to gain a high level of transparency into project activity. This facilitates the collaborative nature of the logistics/supply chain business process in an entirely new way bringing about a "never before seen" level of efficiency and productivity for its users.
Technologies
Global Shipping Pro was built upon .NET/Oracle 9i. The application was designed for high reliability and impressive performance. The front end and middleware layers were built upon web services technology using the Microsoft .NET platform. The application servers were clustered using Cisco load balancing technology. The applicaiton included three distinct client intefaces: web, PDA, and "fat client". Data persistance for the solution was implemented on Oracle RDBMS.
